A pop-up tent, 34 kids and a couple of bottles of sloe gin

I would never have believed it. Moi, the Catwalk Queen herself, fully hardened townie, off on a mummies and kiddies camping night in the depths of the Sussex countryside.  Brought on by a moment of Earth Mother weakness in the playground, I had been enticed into parting with my mattress, hair-dryer and Jo Malone bubble-bath, oh and darling husband, to spend one night and one night only in a field on the edge of the Ashdown Forest with 14 mothers and 34 children. It’ll be a laugh I thought, get

    I guess I am a skinflint

A regular Ebeneezer Scrooge.  A tightwad.  Or, in the words of my son, “As tight as the bark on a damn tree.”I deserve this how?Long time readers will know I am in semi retirement – I quit being a propietor of my own business, done with the rat race, headaches, contracts, worries – cashed in my chips, socked it away, and am now living off of the savings I didn’t lock down plus a 9-5 for cash flow, since I have “Fuck you” money. It’s been good.  Re-enrolled in school for night/net classes.  But I

    According to the dig

If hundreds of years passed and our house was buried under dirt and rocks and archaeologists came to discover about the ancient Strovas civilization by carefully roping off quadrants and sifting through the rubble piece by piece, then these are the findings they would report (according the our mock bean box dig and study of archaeology/history this afternoon!):They knew how to can their food. They played baseball. They could build things with their toys. They could buy stuff. They could cut things.T

    Not guilty

This weekend our daughter Heather and I went to Springfield, MO, for Forward Baptist Church’s annual women’s retreat, where I would be speaking.  The drive there was incredible, with the mountains and the leaves changing colors to a beautiful bright red, burnt orange, and lemon yellow. Here is the scenic view of the Ozark river near Forsythe, MO. The church’s women’s board chose a theme of “Not Guilty” for the retreat, with the scripture Romans 3: 23-24 (NLT): “For all have sinned: all fall sh

“Renn! I need you!” her shrill voice shattered the peace that had prevailed for all of 5 minutes. “Just a minute, Ma,” he shouted back. “I need you now!” “I’m in the bathroom, Ma!” “Fine.

    This Thing Of Dogness…

Back when I was pretty sure that I could fly if I really tried, I thought dogs could fly, too. A set of Supertoys helped make that happen, since during that sunshiney, toy-happy time, you could buy not just Superman, but an entire Superfamily, featuring, as I recall, a Superboy, a Supergirl, and more
