    Alan’s Daytrip to London

October 28th, 2009Alan WalshWatering HolesThis post does exactly what it says on the tin. A couple of weeks ago I had a day off work and thought a trip to sample the real ale houses of London was in order. Some of the establishments warranted posts of their own but, unfortunately, some did not. Those that did not are only mentioned here and may include brief tasting notes of the beers we (my University housemate and East End friend Jack was helping me out for the day) came across during our trave

An Amateur Beer Snob’s Guide to Beer: The R Beers

What you will find below The listings below will include the name of the beer, my numerical ranking based upon my own scale of 0.1 to 10.0, and a little of my personal thoughts about each beer. Here and there I’ll also throw in a few funny or interesting quotes about beer from famous folks. And if you’re curious about my ranking systems, let’s just say that a 5.0 is a decent beer, a 1.0 is an awful beer and a 10.0 is a fantastic beer.

Where Is New York At? #327

Where indeed? I haven’t updated this question since the winter because it’s been difficult to get a sense of where, in fact, New York is at. Certainly, the optimism I felt in the winter after the Obama inauguration has dissipated.

    Options For Home Gutter Cleaning

Included in the regular tasks that an individual must undertake to maintain and care for a home is the process of gutter cleaning. Cleaning gutters is often not included in a regular maintenance check list because people do not realize the amount of dirt and debris that can collect in a gutter during the dry months

Term 1: A Tale of Beer

It was long when it lasted and but felt like a breeze when it got over – that summarizes the first term. Accounting grades are out and the term 1 is in the bag. All I can remember from the whole term 1 is “Beer”; seems to stick to everything that I remember about it.It all started during the pre-reading “A History of World in 6 glasses” by Tom Standage – and guess what is the first chapter on – Beer! The oldest drink known to man – almost 3000 years of history; made to avoid drinking contaminate

Brown-Bagging It at the Beer Authority

Seattle is flush with–among other things–neighborhood grocery stores, bars, and, of course, breweries. If one suffers inspiration to refill the fridge, you only have to walk a few blocks to stock up on a local brew. In the Lake City neighborhood however, one usually has to walk a bit further.
